Job Description:
The Tertiary Vault Backup Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring, and maintaining secure tertiary backup solutions, with a focus on air-gapped or immutable storage vaults. This role ensures that critical data is protected from ransomware, corruption, or accidental deletion, and can be reliably restored in compliance with organizational recovery objectives and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:

Configure and manage backup, restore, and replication processes using NetBackup, Data Domain, Commvault, and VAST.

Ensure reliable client connectivity and effective data protection across diverse environments.

Plan and execute regular maintenance of data protection infrastructure, including software upgrades, firmware updates, data migrations, and hardware diagnostics.

Install, upgrade, and decommission backup infrastructure in alignment with business needs and vendor product roadmaps.

Mitigate security vulnerabilities by maintaining infrastructure compliance with organizational controls, capacity planning, and evergreening standards.

Perform regular data recovery tests and participate in disaster recovery procedures.

Provide expert consultancy on data protection standards and industry best practices.

Produce and maintain clear, comprehensive documentation and operational procedures.

Collaborate effectively, demonstrating strong oral and written communication skills.
Professional Skill:

Extensive experience with enterprise-class backup software, including Cohesity, NetBackup, and Commvault, in large-scale environments.

Strong expertise in enterprise backup hardware, such as Cohesity Appliances, Dell Data Domain, Commvault Hyperscale, VAST, and S3-compatible storage.

Excellent knowledge of data protection strategies for diverse technologies, including databases (Oracle, SQL, Sybase, MongoDB, DB2) and various file systems.

Solid understanding of storage platforms and technologies such as SAN, NAS, and object storage.

Basic understanding of networking concepts, including VLANs, trunking, LACP, IP addressing, and routing.

Familiarity with agile methodologies (Kanban, Scrum) and collaborative working environments.

Experience with implementing data protection solutions in external/cloud environments (preferred).
